General programme, activity sheet

Friday 22 March, 2013 10:00 to 11:00 Conference
Alberto Lobo and the Strive for Gravitational Wave Astronomy
Speaker: Carlos F. Sopuerta, Institut de Ciencies de l'Espai (CSIC-IEEC), Researcher

Authors: Carlos F. Sopuerta

Alberto Lobo (1953-2012) has been a pioneer in many of the scientific developments that are making Gravitational Wave Astronomy a reality, not only in Spain but also at the European level as one of the main scientists supporting the idea of a low-frequency space-based gravitational-wave observatory within the scientific programme of the European Space Agency. This talk will be a tribute to his career, from its beginnings as a theoretical physicist up to his leadership in instrumental activities, including data analysis work. The focus will be on his efforts in the Spanish contribution to the LISA Pathfinder mission as a technology demonstrator for a future (e)LISA mission.
