Since 1988, EMRF has arranged a series of biennial conferences focused on recent developments in image contrast enhancement by agents or tracers. The purpose of these meetings is to allow those interested in the field to get together to present their research in a setting that fosters discussion, collaboration, and advancement in the field. From the beginning, this group has comprised both academic scientists and researchers from industry.
The conference is organized on the principle of formal scientific exchange by lectures and poster sessions and informal interaction during the rest of the day. Over the years, this has led to the development of new projects and products, often collaborative ones, between industry and academics or between universities. As always, also in Valencia the traditional mood of friendly and open exchange between the industrial and academic communities will be preserved.
Under the auspices of TRTF, The Round Table Foundation, the conference in February 2013 will be arranged and organized by EMRF-ESMR in cooperation with the University of Valencia and ADEIT, the University Enterprise Foundation of Valencia. ADEIT will be in charge of all local logistics. We are also happy about the involvement of CIBER-BBN, the Biomedical Research Networking Center in Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine.
EMRF's conferences are ongoing projects. Their layout and spectrum of contents and interests have changed over the last decades. State of the art in contrast-enhancing compounds in MR imaging, PET, SPECT, ultrasound, x-ray and optical imaging – what is described as "molecular imaging" and in clinical reality cellular imaging – is an ever-changing affair. Research and afterwards clinical experience open new avenues – or close them.
During a quarter of a century, these conferences have mirrored the rapid and dynamic changes in a wide spectrum of research and applications – contrast agent design, contrast-enhancement, image processing, nano-technology, including the combination of diagnostics and treatment.
A new generation of scientists is ready to get off the starting blocks – and the EMRF meetings offer them a friendly arena to feel at ease to exchange their ideas with the veterans in the field.
